Lafayette Ron Hubbard
Lafayette Ronald Hubbard was born on March 13, 1911 in Tilden, Nebraska. Ever since he was a child he was very adept at telling stories. As he grew older the stories became more and more elaborate, as he had "high hopes of smashing my name into history so violently that it will take legendary form, even if all the books are destroyed." His attempts to attain legendary status began with many aggrandized tales of fantastical achievements. These included that he was a decorated war hero, a nuclear physicist, an acclaimed explorer, and that as a teenager, he had spent five years studying at the feet of holy men in India, China, and Tibet. These are only a mere handful of the many varied claims Hubbard made about his life, his experiences, and his achievements, almost all of which have since been proven to be utterly and completely false. Just about the only thing that has been proven with regard to these claims is that they serve as very definitive evidence that he had a long and elaborate history of being a pathological liar.
I could easily dive into the substantial evidence that has come forth regarding the true story of L Ron Hubbard, but if I were to do that, this would by far be the longest section of the website. Instead, I will defer to others who have done a spectacular job of researching and explaining the life of this self-made messiah.

My personal favorite of all the works detailing Hubbard's biography is the television program, "Secret Lives." Produced by the UK's Channel 4 in 1997, this highly entertaining program is an incredibly thorough look into the life of this complication man. It does a brilliant job of showing the truth behind the claims and the progression from science fiction writer to scientology guru. It's an absolute must-see for anyone trying to understand Scientology as a whole and where it came from. It's available freely online at XenuTV.com.
